Highlights from Tom Allen’s weekly radio show

Tom Allen was back at the Bloomington Holiday Inn for his weekly radio show on Wednesday evening. A few highlights from the Indiana coach:

— Allen said tight end Ian Thomas probably gets the most NFL scouting attention of anyone on IU’s roster

— Allen was pleased to get right tackle Brandon Knight back in the mix against Georgia Southern. “He’s one of our best athletes up front. Getting him back was big.”

— Running back Mike Majette tweaked his hamstring and was unavailable last week. No update on availability at Penn State.

— What did Tom Allen like most about IU’s three takeaways last week? “All three were true takeaways,” he said. “They didn’t just fumble the snap or lose the ball. All three were aggressively attacked.”

— Allen said Georgia Southern’s chop blocks did not lead to any of this week’s injuries. “That would have been frustrating” if they had, he said.

— Don Fischer joked that he almost lost his hearing at practice this week. IU has been trying to simulate Beaver Stadium crowd noise.

— Allen says he has three axioms for the program: “Edge. Hunger. Focus.”

  1. As tough as it would be to win in Happy Valley this would be a true breakthrough game. It would be great to see the offense click for the whole game against a quality B1G defense. I would like to see IU add a block team for punt return to go along with the side return. Blocked kicks really change field position. The defense will have their hands full but I expect coach Hagen to have the front fired up and ready to go.

  2. Exactly! You took the exact thoughts out of my head and the words out of my mouth. A little added option here and there, well planned, practiced and timely for a team in IU’s position this season can be positive in any game.
