Hartman among players who could miss Hoosier Hysteria

NEW YORK — Three weeks into preseason practice, Indiana is dealing with an assortment of minor injuries.

One of IU’s ailing players is Collin Hartman.

After missing all of last season with a knee injury, the senior forward missed three practices this week after rolling his ankle, IU coach Archie Miller said at Thursday’s Big Ten Media Day at Madison Square Garden. Although Hartman’s ankle issue is not believed to be a significant injury, he could be one of a few players held out of Saturday’s Hoosier Hysteria event at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

“With him, we’re continuing to take things slow,” Miller said. “We’re not worried about his learning curve. I’m not worried about all that. He’s a guy who gets it. I think he’s a guy we’re going to need later down the line than ore so right now in October.”

Miller didn’t specify which of his other players are dealing with injuries at the moment, but did say that the IU training staff has been tending to a few minor hamstring and foot issues.

“I think we’re day-to-day and hopefully not lingering into November,” Miller said. “We’re trying to be cautious with things. I could see where there could be a couple guys we hold out of Hoosier Hysteria just for the time being of getting them ready, hopefully, for exhibition one and two leading into the home opener. We’re a month away.”

Even with his ankle sprain, Hartman says he expects to return to practice soon.

“It’s nothing crazy or major,” he said. “I gotta do treatment all the time. I’m in treatment three times a day for my knees, just maintenance stuff. I just have to keep my body going and keep ahead of it. I take one or two days off and my body falls behind. Thats when injuries happen, when fatigue catches up. Thats a big thing we’re preaching now is recovery, recovery, recovery.”

  1. I can’t stand the thought of Hartman going down with another injury. Hope the ankle gets back to normal very soon and that he stays healthy enough to really enjoy his last season in candy stripes.

  2. He’s been through a lot and just hoping for an injury free season to conclude his swan song for Indiana.
