Indiana pulls away from Marian in exhibition, 93-62

It’s going to take more than 20 minutes for Indiana to get comfortable this season, but on Saturday night that was enough.

The Hoosiers shook off their nerves and then their opponents, pulling away from NAIA Marian University for a 93-62 victory in the exhibition opener at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

Devonte Green led the way with 22 points, seven assists and six rebounds, one of four Hoosiers to finish in double figures. Curtis Jones and Josh Newkirk added 13 points apiece, while De’Ron Davis had 10.

The visiting Knights were aggressive early, using an 8-0 run to take a 13-8 lead that eventually peaked at 16-10.

But the Hoosiers responded with a 9-0 sparked by Green, Jones and Robert Johnson to reclaim the lead for good.

The Hoosiers used another 10-0 run to go up 33-21 and eventually took a 40-28 lead to the halftime locker room.

After another lackluster opening six minutes of the second half, a 15-0 run gave Indiana a 64-38 lead, and the Hoosiers never looked back.

IU shot 56.7 percent in the final 20 minutes and 54.1 percent for the game, while holding Marian to 39 percent shooting after the hot start.
