Philyor named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Whop Philyor stepped forward in a major way for Indiana on Saturday.

On Monday, the Big Ten recognized the IU receiver as its co-Freshman of the Week.

Philyor, who shared the weekly honor with Michigan State’s Cody White, set an Indiana true freshman record with 13 catches in the loss at Maryland. He totaled 127 receiving yards and scored on a shovel pass that he took 11 yards into the end zone.

Philyor’s yardage is the most for a Hoosier true freshman since O.J. Conner posted 140 yards against Ball State on Sept. 13, 1997. Philyor also became the fourth true freshman in IU history to reach the century mark joining Conner, who accomplished the feat twice, Tandon Doss and Ernie Jones.

For the season, Philyor has 21 receptions for 187 yards and a pair of scores.

  1. It is good to see Whop have a break out game and got recognized by the B1G. I hope it is a sign of future play by Whop as he can be a difference maker.
