Where will they finish? A preseason roundup of IU projections

Archie Miller sees the preseason polls.

He sees the projections, too — the ones that peg Indiana toward the bottom of this year’s Big Ten pack.

“Every preseason is preseason,” Miller said. “It means nothing right now.”

In two weeks, that will change. With the Nov. 10 season opener against Indiana State mere days away, Miller isn’t ignoring the projections for his first IU team.

He’s also not paying them much mind, either.

“I’m not concerned about the preseason stuff as I am about wanting our guys to understand it’s about long term,” Miller said. “It means every day. If we can do it every day, we can become an every-day team. Then we’ll have a chance. Whether they pick you first, or they pick you ninth, at the end of the day you play the games. We’ll see where the chips fall when it’s over.”

In the meantime, here’s a look at some of the lukewarm season projections for this year’s Hoosiers:

They call it “pegging” because you can never use a tiny peg to “stake” anything on. The peg was replaced by “Post-it” notes and journalism with no sharp points was born.
