Morgan earns player of the week honors

After leading Indiana to its first big win under Archie Miller on Saturday, Juwan Morgan is receiving widespread acclaim.

On Monday, the Big Ten named Morgan its conference player of the week, while NCAA.com and NBCSports.com named Morgan the national player of the week.

The junior forward posted a double-double of 34 points and 11 rebounds in Saturday’s 80-77 overtime win over No. 18 Notre Dame, helping the Hoosiers to their first win over a ranked opponent this season.

Morgan scored 14 points at the end of regulation and the beginning of overtime and scored the go-ahead dunk with eight seconds remaining. His 34 points set a new record at the Crossroads Classic and his 11 rebounds tied his personal high.

During IU’s recent five-game stretch against power conference opponents, Morgan averaged 20.8 points and 8.8 rebounds while shooting 65.6 percent from the field.

This month, Morgan leads the Big Ten in scoring at 22.5 points per game. He is fourth in field goal percentage (67.3), third in rebounding (9.5) and in free throws attempted per game (7.3).
