Hoosiers will start season in top 25

Indiana will begin the 2018 baseball season ranked in at least two national polls.

The Hoosiers debuted at No. 17 in Perfect Game’s Preseason Top and at No. 23 in D1Baseball.com’s rankings.

The team is coming off its fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in the past five seasons. Junior catcher Ryan Fineman and classmate Pauly Milton, a right-handed pitcher, will serve as captains for a team that also returns nearly every key player from a season ago.

Indiana went 34-24-2 overall and 14-9-1 in Big Ten play in 2017. Coach Chris Lemonis became the first coach in program history to make two regionals in his first three seasons guiding the team.

The Hoosiers open the season on Feb. 16 against Oklahoma in the Brittain Resorts Baseball at the Beach showcase in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
