IUWBB: Jaelynn Penn named Big Ten freshman of the week

Indiana freshman Jaelynn Penn was named the Big Ten’s freshman of the week.

Penn, the Louisville, Ky., native, scored a combined 31 points in games versus No. 14 Maryland and Michigan State. She hit a crucial 3-pointer down the stretch at MSU to help the Hoosiers secure their second conference win of the season.

Penn was 3-of-3 from 3-point range against the Spartans on her way to 13 points. At Maryland, Penn scored 18 points and hit 5-of-8 from beyond the arc.

This is Penn’s first conference honor as a Hoosier and the first freshman of the week award for IU since Tyra Buss in 2014.15. On the season, Penn is averaging 10 points and 5 rebounds in 32 minutes per game. She has hit 38.6 percent of her shots from the field.

  1. She is starting to show why she was a 5 star recruit. She has shown in more than one game that she has the ability to hit the big shot when it is needed. She is going to be a huge part of the future of IU basketball. This is an award that is well deserved! Go Mhoosiers!!

  2. And, best of all, Jaelynn is NOT on social media!
Has more time to be in the gym perfecting her three point shot.
Great career ahead for her here at IU.
