Hoosiers draw Rutgers in tournament opener

NEW YORK — Rutgers is up next for Indiana.

The sixth-seeded Hoosiers will open the Big Ten Tournament against the No. 14 Scarlet Knights on Thursday at Madison Square Garden. You can catch the game at approximately 9 p.m. on Big Ten Network.

IU defeated Rutgers, 65-43, on Feb. 5 in Piscataway, N.J. in the only regular season meeting between the teams. It was the most lopsided IU road victory since the Hoosiers turned away Illinois by 27 points on Feb. 25, 2016.

The Hoosier win in New Jersey was IU’s first with its most recent starting lineup consisting of Devonte Green, Robert Johnson, Zach McRoberts, Freddie McSwain and Juwan Morgan.

Indiana shot 9-for-20 from beyond the arc in that game, which included a game-high 24 points from Morgan.

  1. Technicality: IU did not draw Rutgers. Rather, Rutgers advanced. (misleading headline. IU did not draw Rutgers out of a hat).

  2. If this was a title fight at MSG, it would be billed as Rutgers vs. Rut Years….

I don’t think it would be fair to the fans if Rutgers plays Purdue…Two wrong Jerseys do not make a right …smell.

I have a bad feeling about this game…Sounds too much like Luke Rutger.

Looks like we’re playing in the 9:00pm game…This one could end with tumbleweeds and buzzard-beaters.

I believe the last time we played at MSG it was in 2013 ‘2K Classic’ against UConn?
Though we lost, it was a good night for a Crean team. Only 19 turnovers! Only one turnover every 2 minutes. Oh, the Crean era…Only Linda Blair remains more famous for horrific possessions.

        1. Only 17 turnovers….lol. Vastly improved from 19! the year before.
And we have people complaining of a first team under Archie(none of his recruits) averaging around 12 turnovers….with a +1 turnover margin.

How can that get your panties in a fuss if you watched the last nine seasons?

  3. Next time you make the bed, check under the very stiff mattress for your sense of humor it rivals….
