Indiana soccer sets spring schedule #iums

The 2017 national runner-up Indiana University men’s soccer team announced the 2018 spring schedule on Friday, a seven-game slate highlighted by the annual matchup with the Mexican Youth National Team at Armstrong Stadium.

“We are looking forward to the spring season with an experienced team,” IU coach Todd Yeagley said in a news release. “The group has been working hard since returning from winter break. We have set up a challenging schedule with a mix of excellent collegiate teams, a professional team and an international opponent. This spring is a great opportunity for some young players to step up and fill a few of the key roles we lost from last season, while also challenging our returning starters to prepare for our fall slate.”

The spring schedule begins Feb. 25 when the Hoosiers face both Valparaiso and Evansville inside Mellencamp Pavilion. Those matches will be closed to the public due to the lack of space in the Pavilion.

On March 3, Indiana faces the Swope Park Rangers of the United Soccer League (USL) at Grand Park in Westfield at 8 p.m. as part of the Circle City Showcase. The Rangers fell to Louisville City FC in the USL Cup final last season.

Just over a month later, the Hoosiers will play rival St. Louis at Armstrong Stadium on April 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and admission will be free.

IU returns to Grand Park in Westfield on April 13 to face Butler at 7 p.m. in the Crossroads of America College Showcase.

The Hoosiers’ annual spring meeting with Notre Dame will take place on April 22 in Fort Wayne as part of the National Soccer Festival at the University of Saint Francis’ Bishop John D’Arcy Football Stadium.

The schedule wraps up on April 29 at 2 p.m. against a Mexican Youth National Team side. Last year’s game was cancelled by inclement weather.

“Playing a match in a packed Armstrong Stadium against the Mexico Youth National Team is always a highlight for our players, staff and fans to cap off our spring season every year,” Yeagley said. “We look forward to welcoming Mexico back to Bloomington and getting the Hoosier Army back out at Armstrong Stadium for a fantastic match.”
