IUWBB: Buss finalist for Senior CLASS Award

Indiana senior Tyra Buss was named Thursday as a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award.

Ten men’s basketball players and 10 women’s basketball players remain in the running for the honor, which recognizes players for on- and off-the-court excellence. Buss, the only player in IU women’s basketball history to score more than 2,000 points, also has a long list of volunteer activities, including Hoosier HEROES, Hoosier Readers, IU Best Buddies, Camp Riley, Hoosier Outrun Cancer, Candy Stripe Crew, Slam Dunk for Literacy, Habitat for Humanity and the Salvation Army. She also has a 3.3 GPA as a physical education major.

The finalists were chosen by national media from lists of 30 men’s candidates and 30 women’s candidates announced in January. The initial women’s list included senior forward Amanda Cahill. There will be a nationwide fan vote to help select the winners, and votes can be submitted on the Senior CLASS Award website through March 19.

The other women’s basketball finalists: Ariel Atkins (Texas), Lexie Brown (Duke), Emily Clemens (Western Illinois), Rebecca Greenwell (Duke), Delaney Hodgins (Eastern Washington), Kaylee Jensen (Oklahoma State0, Jackie Kemph (Saint Louis), Victoria Vivians (Mississippi State), Gabby Williams (UConn).
