Hoosiers land commitment from Missouri running back Winters

Indiana added to its backfield on Friday.

The Hoosiers landed a verbal commitment from running back Ivory Winters, a three-star prospect from Missouri.

Winters is considered the No. 60 running back in the 2019 recruiting class and the No. 20 overall player in the state of Missouri. IU’s pursuit of Winters gained traction early last month when the school extended its scholarship offer. Purdue followed with an offer last weekend.

Kentucky and Southeast Missouri State also extended offers.

Winters scored 34 touchdowns as a junior last fall. He’s also been timed running the 100-meter dash in 11.29 seconds, according to 247 Sports.

Winters is the second player to commit to IU’s 2019 class, joining North Carolina receiver Emery Simmons.

  1. I’ll tell you what if that 11.29 is accurate it is fairly positive. Now if he can run a sub 4.5 – 40 with power, in pads, he has B1G RB speed. But I don’t care if he plays on the offense or the D as I think the recruits are seeing IU as a viable spot to showcase there wares. . He sounds to be a player as a Frosh at IU with his size.

  2. Winters is a big RB that has scouts and coaches saying he has a lot of upside. He has good hands and IU has talked to him about being able to play in the slot position too. IU is in the running for a 4 star RB that has us in his top 7.

  3. But can he BLOCK? No chance to see it on the video, ’cause no way are you going to let someone else carry the ball when this guy’s available. But he looked good on defense, so maybe he has the love of contact that makes a football player a football player.

  4. Reminds me of Saquon Barkley. Runs with power and, if he gets past the LOS, he’s gone.

You can’t teach fast. With a good S&C program you can make them faster, though.

  5. His highlights video makes him out to be a man playing against boys. And I love the speed he shows once he’s in the open field. Good pick-up if he signs his LOI.
