IUWBB: Big Ten opponents announced for 2018-19

Big Ten matchups were announced Thursday for the 2018-19 season.

Indiana will play five teams twice, including Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Rutgers, and Purdue. The Hoosiers will face Maryland, Minnesota, Iowa, and Penn State at home only. Illinois, Nebraska, Ohio State, and Wisconsin will be away-only opponents.

Dates and times for these games will be announced at a later date.

IU had some success last season against its future doubles. The Hoosiers beat Purdue three times in 2017-18, including a victory over the Boilermakers in the WNIT. IU lost to Michigan State in last year’s conference home opener, but the Hoosiers prevailed in East Lansing in the rematch and in Indianapolis during the Big Ten conference tournament. IU also beat Northwestern and Rutgers last season.

While the Hoosiers were a combined 7-2 against Purdue, MSU, Rutgers, Northwestern and Michigan last year, they had less success against next year’s home-only group. IU played all four on the road, losing to Maryland, Iowa and Penn State and beating Minnesota.

Like the home group, the group of teams IU will have to play on the road were mostly home-only in ’17-18. IU beat Nebraska, Wisconsin and Illinois at home this past season, while OSU was a home-and-away foe in ’17-18, both losses.
