IU soccer unanimous preseason Big Ten favorite

The Big Ten men’s soccer preseason coaches’ poll was released on Wednesday, and No. 2 Indiana was the unanimous favorite.

The Hoosiers, coming off a national runner-up finish in 2017 with nine returning starters, have not won a regular-season conference title since 2010 but were picked to finish ahead of No. 7 Michigan State, Maryland, No. 21 Michigan and No. 12 Wisconsin in the poll.

The Big Ten Preseason Honors List was also released on Wednesday and included the IU trio of Andrew Gutman, Francesco Moore and Trey Muse.

Gutman, a senior defender, was a first team All-Big Ten choice a season ago en route to second team All-American honors and was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List last week.

Moore was also first team All-Big Ten in 2017, starting all 25 matches for the Hoosiers and heads into his senior season as a defensive midfielder ready to again captain Indiana’s success.

Muse enters his sophomore season at goalkeeper coming off a freshman campaign that saw him earn second team All-Big Ten honors while leading the NCAA in shutouts (18), goals against average (.260), save percentage (.903) and goalie minutes played (2417:18).
