11 Hoosiers set to start season with NFL teams

Indiana will be well accounted for when the NFL regular season kicks off this weekend.

With rosters now set, 11 former IU players will open the regular season active at football’s highest level.

The list includes:

— Jordan Howard, Chicago Bears
— Dan Feeney, Los Angeles Chargers
— Robert McCray, Kansas City Chiefs (practice squad)
— Chris Covington, Dallas Cowboys
— Nate Sudfeld, Philadelphia Eagles
— Tevin Coleman, Atlanta Falcons
— Cody Latimer, New York Giants
— Jason Spriggs, Green Bay Packers
— Ian Thomas, Carolina Panthers
— Rodger Saffold, Los Angeles Rams
— Simmie Cobbs, Washington Redskins (practice squad)

“There’s many that just got opportunities and several that are continuing to play and representing Indiana University each and every weekend on the NFL level, and doing a great job,” Allen said. “So proud of those guys and what they’re accomplishing after leaving our program.”

Former Hoosiers Tegray Scales (Los Angeles Rams) and Shane Wynn (Jacksonville Jaguars) were cut this past weekend. Per CBS Sports, Rashard Fant (Chicago Bears) was waived with an injury designation and will spend the year on injury reserve.

  1. Earned NFL roster positions absolute recognition the IUFB program is aimed in the right direction. Tip of the hat to AD Glass, HC’s Allen and Wilson.

  2. I’m hoping that both Scales and Wynn will be back on NFL rosters within a few weeks as injuries create opportunities for these talented young men.

  3. Cody may get more touches in NY. Denver is a tough place to be the low man on the wide receiver totem pole. After Beckom the Giants are pretty thin.

Ian has been the toast of the Panthers training camp and Greg Olson has taken him under his wing. I hope he can stay healthy.

  4. It is nice to see IU represented by so many in the NFL. I hope there are many more in the coming years giving IU a much bigger presence.
