Morgan named Big Ten Player of the Week

Juwan Morgan’s performance against Butler earned him weekly honors from the conference.

The Big Ten announced Monday that Morgan is the league’s player of the week after he scored a career-high 35 points in IU’s 71-68 win over the Bulldogs at the Crossroads Classic.

Morgan’s 35 points not only set a new personal best, they broke his own Crossroads Classic scoring record of 34 points set in last year’s win over Notre Dame. The senior forward also became the 52nd player in Indiana history to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau and now ranks 51st in program history with 1,020 points.

Against Butler, Morgan connected on 12 of his 14 field goals, going 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. He also added three rebounds, two blocks and two steals. His steal with 3:50 left in the game led him to making two game-tying free throws. On the next possession, he gave the Hoosiers their first lead of the game.

This is the second Big Ten Player of the Week award for Morgan, who also earned it after last season’s performance in the Crossroads Classic.

  1. When his basketball career is over, he’ll return to IU and Assembly Hall to a hero’s welcome. I just pray that he stays healthy for the remainder of the season and get’s a solid opportunity to play in the NBA.

  2. He has worked his butt off to quietly make himself into one of the best players in the country.

He is everything we ask a Hoosier player to be.

  3. Morgan is having a great year and I hope he stay healthy to continue on pace. He is very important for this young team and gives IU a chance to be one of the best teams in the B1G.

  4. The other guys will need to really step it up now. Teams will have two and three guys on him whenever he gets the ball. Opens up the potential for the others.

    1. …which will have a direct bearing on scorers #3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 taking full advantage of the opportunities offered by dbl. & triple team D thrown at RL and Juwan…
