Green, Durham will be captains for ’19-20 season

Senior Devonte Green and junior Al Durham have been selected as team captains for the 2019-20 season.

Both players are expected to have big roles on the floor for the Hoosiers this season. Green, a senior, is the Hoosiers’ returning scoring leader at 9.4 points per game and will be expected to initiate even more offense. Durham, a junior, produced 8.3 points per game last season but could see more time at the point.

Now the backcourt duo will lead in an official capacity, as well.

“Being a team captain comes with great responsibility,” IU coach Archie Miller said in a statement. “You lead by example on the floor every day with your work ethic and in the locker room by not being afraid to hold your  teammates accountable in representing the standards we expect when you wear Indiana across your chest.

“Devonte and Al have earned the respect of their teammates and coaching staff.”

As one of only two seniors, Green is obviously one of the more established players on the IU roster.

At the same time, it’s not a surprise to see Durham tabbed for a captain’s role, especially based on some of Miller’s comments about the junior last week.

“He’s a great guy. He’s a great person to have on your team. He’s a great guy to go to class with,” Miller said. “He’s been a terrific teammate since day one. Right now really count on him being not only a terrific teammate, but terrific leader for us.”

  1. I’m seeing that the unofficial Big Ten rankings has IU finishing 10th this season. Ouch! I certainly hope they do better than tenth in conference.

  2. Good choices for captains. Al needs to step up to be a Quinn Buckner type of leader. Maybe Archie should set up a face to face meeting?

  3. I couldn’t find much from more prominent news outlets on recent hoops predictions/standings for BigTen hoops. Can somebody give me a link showing IU predicted to finish 10th from a known source(e.g. CBS Sports, ESPN..or SI)?
Most the early predictions I found were from the spring. Couldn’t find one prediction which mentioned Joey Brunk’s transfer from Butler to IU.

A lot of these so-called prediction experts do not do their homework. Here’s my prediction: Brunk is going to bust onto the scene in a fashion nobody saw coming. A different body…a different outlook…and a force inside. He’ll change a lot of dynamics on this team. He’ll allow Smith and Davis more freedom inside. He’ll be a leader and a huge spark.

8th, 9th…10th place? Not a chance in hell. I think we’ll finish Top 4. Nothing “hinged” on Brunk…and that’s exactly why a quiet storm is brewing.
