2020 TE Daugstrup commits to IU

Indiana picked up a verbal commitment from  2020 tight end Sam Daugstrup on Thursday night.

Daugstrup, a 6-foot-5, 245-pound prospect from Cleveland, Ohio, is rated as a three-star by recruiting services. According to 247, he was previously offered by Pittsburgh and Vanderbilt, among others.

Daugstrup suffered a knee injury this season and is committing to IU as a preferred walk-on, according to TheHoosier.com.

He’s the Hoosiers’ second tight end recruit for 2020. Third-year coach Tom Allen has also received a scholarship pledge from Jalen Williams, a 6-7, 200-pound target from Apopka, Fla.

When speaking to redshirt sophomore Peyton Hendershot’s early success in offensive coordinator Kalen DeBoer’s new scheme, Allen would often talk about his desire to bring playmakers at that position to Bloomington.

One thing is clear when watching Daugstrup’s highlights at St Ignatius: He likes to block.

  1. I agree with both comments above. And I want to make it clear that I have no information on which to base this, but this guy could also be converted to an O-lineman. At 6′ 5″ and 245 pounds as a HS Senior, I could see him putting on 60 lbs. over the next two years and being a very athletic guard or tackle. Red shirt him his freshman year to make sure his knee is 100% while be bulks up, and by the fall of 2021, he could be a beast on the O-line. He’s almost identical in height and weight as Jason Springs was coming out of HS (Spriggs was listed at 6’6″ and 249 lbs. during his senior year of HS). I guess the position he plays will be determined by his speed.
