B1G honor for Berger as IU climbs in poll

The biggest week of the season is off to a rousing start for the Indiana women’s basketball team.

The Hoosiers, who will play No. 5 South Carolina, No. 2 Baylor and Washington State in the Paradise Jam Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the Virgin Islands, move up one spot in the Associated Press poll to No. 17, improving on the highest ranking in school history.

Sophomore guard Grace Berger was also honored Monday as Big Ten Player of the Week for her performance in IU’s 73-49 win at Florida last Friday. The Louisville, Ky., native scored 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting to go with a career-high five steals and three rebounds as Indiana improved to 4-0.

Berger, a Sports Management major, is the first Hoosier to win player of the week honors since Amanda Cahill on Dec. 26, 2016.

  1. Very cool honor for Grace as she is becoming the toughest matchup for opponents. Her game has really evolved this year now that she has added a strong 3point shot. Her driving ability is her strong point and now with the added 3 point shot, she is almost impossible to guard. More honors will come for her as the season moves on. Very cool to move up another slot in the polls but, we may slip a little as this upcoming tournament comes to fruition. If we could win 2 of the 3 upcoming games, that would be great. That will be a tall order to say the least? Reguardless of the results in the tournament, these are good days for IU women’s basketball! Go Hoosiers!

  2. Pre season T.Moren talked about off season hard work, time and dedication that G.B. Put in. T.A. Said she was going to be much improved. Thus far Grace is backing that up.

  3. We all wondered what the improvement would be that was mentioned in preseason, Grace has turned into ” a beast” for the other team to guard. She mostly carried her team on her shoulders against the Gators. The hoosiers had some players with a down game, Ali, and Jaelynn, but look for them to bounce back. If this team ever gets clicking on all cylinders lookout BIG. I watched the S. Carolina vs Maryland game and the gamecocks have a 6′ 5″ post who blocks everything that comes inside. IU better hit any open 3 ‘s they have to stay in that game, S. C. is also very strong defensively.
