Patberg on Wooden Award preseason watch list

Indiana redshirt junior guard Ali Patberg was named as one of 30 members of the Wooden Award preseason watch list on Monday.

The Wooden Award is given annually to the national player of the year.

Patberg is one of two Big Ten players on the list, joined by Maryland’s Kaila Charles.

The Columbus native averaged 15.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game last season for the Hoosiers, earning second team All-Big Ten honors as the Hoosiers advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and posted a 21-13 record.

Patberg scored in double figures 24 times while shooting 80.4 percent from the free-throw line and recorded a career-high 13 assists against Missouri State.

She is also on the Nancy Lieberman Award watch list for the nation’s top point guard and was a preseason All-Big Ten selection.

Patberg and the Hoosiers open the regular season Thursday when they host Mount St. Mary’s at 7 p.m. in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
