Holmes named Big Ten co-Freshman of the Week

Indiana freshman Mackenzie Holmes was named Big Ten co-Freshman of the Week on Monday.

The 6-foot-3 forward tied a career high with 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting in the Hoosiers’ overtime loss to Northwestern last week and added a career-high nine rebounds.

Holmes is now shooting 67.6 percent from the field on the season, fourth-best in the country while averaging 12.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

The Gorham, Maine, native is the first IU freshman to win the conference’s weekly award three times in a season. Larryn Brooks (2-13-14), Tyra Buss (2014-15) and Jaelynn Penn (2017-18) previously each were honored twice.

Holmes shared the award with Minnesota guard Sara Scalia.

  1. Continue tonight. Due to it being a really good situation for her. 1. Mac seems to want to be the best she can be 2. T. Moren wants same thing for her and will coach her accordingly. I can’t imagine her getting better coaching
