Butler game at IU women off, Hoosiers seek new foe

First, the game moved from Sunday to Saturday.

Then, the start time was moved from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Big Ten Network coverage was added.

And by the time Indiana women’s basketball assistant coach Rhet Wierzba tweeted at 4:30 p.m., the whole thing was off.

“This is 2020, and things are constantly changing,” Wierzba posted on Twitter. “We are now in need of a game this weekend, preferably Saturday if anybody needs a game!!”

Just 30 minutes later, Butler confirmed the postponement of this weekend’s game against the No. 15 Hoosiers.

“Butler’s women’s basketball program will pause team activities in accordance with COVID-19 protocols,” the statement posted on social media said. “As a result, the team’s next three games – at Indiana (Saturday, Dec. 12), at Connecticut (Tuesday, Dec. 15), and at Creighton (Saturday, Dec. 19) -have been postponed.”

Where the Bulldogs say postponed, Indiana is currently considering the game canceled. An IU spokesperson says the team have not discussed rescheduling the game as of Thursday.

Meanwhile, that leaves Indiana searching channels both official and unofficial to fill the void on its schedule. If IU is unable to secure another opponent, the Hoosiers will have a two-week layoff between last Sunday’s 72-68 loss at then-No. 11 Kentucky and the Big Ten opener against Nebraska on Dec. 20 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

  1. Thats 2020 in a nutshell and why mens and womens ncaa have setup 3 potential tourney options, 64, 48, and 16 game playoffs. Glad to hear we are at least open for playing someone this weekend. How about picking up a second option for the terps who we only play once so far. Some big ten action has already happened which I watched last night Mich. St and Minn. Tonight is ILL. at Neb. on BTN.

  2. IU women fans stay close to these forums as change could happen quickly as Im sure other teams are in a similar boat.

  3. On T.Moren radio I thought I heard her say (before Butler situation) IU Ladies were trying to pick up another game (now it would be 2 games). She stated that there was a requirement (something like 13) in either games played or wins to make tournament. Of course things can go out the window like big ten football.
