Mike Davis presided over six tumultuous seasons as head coach at Indiana.

After being named interim head coach following the controversial dismissalof Bob Knight in September 2000, the Alabama native won over many Hoosierfans with his friendly, modest demeanor.

Davis was the toast of Bloomington after leading the Hoosiers to anunexpected trip to the national championship game in 2002.

But after his teams failed to make the NCAA Tournament in 2004 and 2005,criticism of Davis grew. Following months of speculation, he announced hisresignation in February 2006, saying the basketball program needed to moveon with a new coach.
